The University of Guelph’s Bachelor of Science in Nutritional and Nutraceutical Sciences (NANS) is concerned with understanding the contribution of food, beverage and nutritional supplement consumption to growth, development of optimal biological function, maintenance of health, and treatment of disease. This major also explores how we can use nutrients, minerals, and food’s chemical properties to develop innovative products that will benefit humans, animals, and the environment. NANS is an exciting and unique major in Canada and provides students with a broad and basic grounding in biology of nutrition, physiology, pathology, pharmacology, and nutraceuticals.

By their first work term, Nutritional and Nutraceutical Sciences (NANS) students have a foundation in Biological Sciences, enabling them to quickly contribute to work environments with a solid understanding of core concepts.
Hands-On Lab Experience:
Students gain practical laboratory and research experience, with access to cutting-edge research facilities, including the Human Nutraceutical Research Unit, the Health and Performance Centre and the Guelph Food Innovation Centre allowing them to apply their academic knowledge to real-world experiments and projects.
Advanced Expertise in Upper Years:
By their second work term, students possess in-depth knowledge related to nutrition, food, nutraceuticals and health. This equips them to excel in complex roles requiring critical thinking and technical expertise.
