Student Testimonials
A U of G Field School is the perfect opportunity to apply your studies in real life research. The knowledge and experiences I have gained from this trip is unparalleled and provides an ideal setting to broaden my cultural competency and continue learning.
[What I learned on my exchange.] That I’m capable of doing more than I ever thought possible. Being alone in a foreign country challenges you, but I came out stronger, happier, and with great memories.
My favourite learning moment on exchange was meeting so many people from so many different places. I loved to get to know the differences between my home and the home of my new friends, as well as experiencing new things with these new people. Another favourite thing of mine was familiarizing myself with how to travel the right way.
I think overall learning about other cultures from my new friends from around the world really gave me perspective and I learned a lot about the world from them.
I learned so much about myself, I solo travelled for the first time for 10 days at the end of my study and travelled to four different countries and met so many cool people I still keep in touch with now. I put myself out there so much and it worked every time.
My favourite learning moment from exchange would have to be all of the adaptability and resilience skills I developed from my time abroad. For instance, when I was travelling in the south of Spain my trains had all been cancelled due to weather & I had to react quickly to come up with a game plan to get where I needed to go, despite the sudden inconvenience.
Academically, there are a lot more opportunities to learn about different cultures and perspectives over here. Non-academic, that being alone is a skill you will have to learn, and it is such a rewarding feeling.
It was great that the students chosen were from all different degree programs. This brought diversity and different insights to our discussions and when analyzing the challenges and solutions regarding sustainable tourism in Mexico. A great experience overall! The Field School is a great opportunity for students to get hands on experience and learning from local communities in their trip destination. ... I highly recommend Field School to all students who are able to participate to enrich their degree program and personal development.
In the two weeks I spent in this field school, I was able to get close to the other students and made friends from other programs that I still talk to after the trip. This was something that made a huge impact on the experiences I had, so to me its important to get to know the people you are going away with, don't be afraid to reach out and talk to them!...I really appreciated the way my field school professors/faculty coordinators organized our time and learning experiences, I felt that I got to have the perfect mixture of education and travel and thoroughly enjoyed this course and everything we did!
