How do Indigenous students self-ID?

Students can voluntarily choose to self-identify as a First Nations, Inuit, and/or Métis student at the University of Guelph through the Ontario Universities' Application Centre (OUAC) application or through the Student Diversity Survey on WebAdvisor.

What are the benefits to self-identifying

  • The Indigenous Student Centre will be able to send you information regarding activities, events, and programs available on campus, and bursaries, scholarships, and services specific to First Nations, Inuit and Métis students.
  • You can learn about ways to connect with the on-campus Indigenous community.
  • You will learn how to access Indigenous-specific services and supports.
  • You will learn how to connect with visiting Elders and Knowledge Holders.
  • It will help U of G and the Indigenous Student Centre to adapt to the evolving needs of First Nations, Inuit, and Métis students.

How will this information be used?

All student information collected is protected under Ontario's Freedom of Information and Project of Privacy Act and will remain confidential. Any reporting will be done in aggregate without identifying information.

University of Guelph (Guelph and Ridgetown campuses)

Identified information will only be used by the Indigenous Student Centre, Student Financial Services, Admissions and Enrolment Services who are required to maintain confidentiality to provide enhanced support for First Nations, Inuit and Métis students.

Guelph-Humber

Guelph-Humber students will have their information shared with the Indigenous Education & Engagement Office at Humber Polytechnic, who provides in-person programming for Guelph-Humber First Nations, Inuit, and Métis students on the Humber campuses.

Who can access the Indigenous Student Centre?

The Indigenous Student Centre (ISC) specifically focuses on supporting self-identified First Nations, Inuit, and Métis students, however all students are welcome to visit the ISC. There are numerous cultural and educational programs offered that are open to all students. For more information email indigenous.student@uoguelph.ca.
