Admission Information for Indigenous Students
The University of Guelph is dedicated to fostering an inclusive and supportive environment for First Nations, Inuit, and Métis students. Our commitments to reconciliation, cultural respect, and academic excellence provide Indigenous learners with a space where their voices are heard and celebrated.
We offer our gratitude to the lands on which the University of Guelph campuses are situated and the Indigenous ancestors who have inhabited these lands for centuries. We recognize that our campuses are located on the lands of the Dish with One Spoon Wampum and the traditional lands of the Haudenosaunee, Anishinaabeg and Huron Wendat. We offer our respect to these Nations and the diverse communities of First Nations, Inuit, and Métis peoples who now reside on these lands. We also recognize that our educational and research enterprises occur on Indigenous lands across Turtle Island and Mother Earth and we endeavour to ensure that our activities honour and respect Indigenous peoples and their lands.

Why Students Choose the University of Guelph
Hear from your peers
The BIESP program teaches ways to incorporate Indigenous methods and technology in today’s changing environmental field. It is a great program that promotes inclusion, innovation, and reciprocity. It is unique to U of G, and one of the major reasons I chose to study here.
I love how U of G is a campus that pushed me from my small-town comfort zone, and is still a place where I can be connected to nature through the Arboretum! All of the supports for Indigenous students like the ISC have really made Guelph my home, and have given me an amazing community to be a part of.
The Indigenous student centre and the resources they provide make me feel like I have a safe space on and off campus.
I chose the University of Guelph not only for its innovative Landscape Architecture program but also because the OAC dean and support staff genuinely listened and cared about me and my culture.
I enjoy U of G because I feel as though it’s well rounded in every aspect you want from a university. Has great food and dining halls, great residence life as they’re always clean and well maintained, great education as teachers, as well as great life outside of school.
I love UofG because it is filled with opportunities to find community. Whether it is through work, academics, or extracurriculars, Guelph offers students a home away from home through endless events, clubs, and community spaces. Community is essential to a student’s well-being, and at Guelph (through the ISC, and my program), I have found people who celebrate my successes and support me through hardships.
I love my major because coming into university I didn't know what kind of biology I liked and this major gives me the chance to explore courses in so many different fields of biology like botany, microbiology and molecular biology. I am so glad I chose U of G because I also have found such community in my dance teams, I've made such incredible friends and connections, and I love our campus.
Indigenous Student Centre
The Indigenous Student Centre (ISC) offers events, advising support, transition programs, and a safer space on campus for self-identified First Nations, Inuit, and Métis students to gather.

The University of Guelph is committed to increasing the representation and success of Indigenous students, and promoting First Nations, Inuit and Métis cultures and heritage within the campus community. All Indigenous students are encouraged to visit the Indigenous Student Centre to learn about the programs and services.
