Why Study Engineering Systems and Computing at U of G?

The growing field of Engineering systems and Computing fuses computer science with electrical engineering to design modern solutions for the technological industry. You’ll focus on the science and tools behind designing, constructing, implementing and maintaining software and hardware components of modern computing systems in your career and studies.

Design, Implement and Develop Solutions

Develop computer systems that are crucial to everything from aircraft to the human body. Explore a unique mix of software development, computing hardware design, fluid mechanics and thermodynamics, control and modelling.

Choose Your Area of Focus

Choose from elective concentrations in the areas of control systems, biomedical, robotics, mechatronics, embedded systems, internet of things, software-hardware systems, and human-centered computing. In upper years, choose one or more streams: mechatronics, robotics, embedded systems, biomedical, or computing – then pursue a career to match!

Take a One-of-a-kind Program

Engineering Systems and Computing at the University of Guelph is the only program of its kind in Canada that focuses on designing integrated, computer-based engineering systems.

Hear From An Engineering Systems and Computing Student

Portrait of Ayesha Mahmood

The engineering community at Guelph was truly unmatched. Paired with the Engineering Systems & Computing program standing as the sole program in Canada specializing in integrated computer-based engineering systems. Its curriculum covering software development, hardware design, mechanics, signal processing, and optimization control aligned with my ambition to grasp the complexities and practical application of technological engineering.

Portrait of Maksim Stroikin

I chose Engineering Systems and Computing at Guelph because it's one of the few programs in Canada focused on designing computer-engineering systems, which when combined with Guelph's unique hands-on learning approach makes this program truly unique. What I like most about my program is that it gave me a strong foundation in programming, electrical system design, and hardware control while still giving me the freedom to pursue the areas I enjoy most through extensive technical elective offering. Taking courses such as Design I & II, Object-Oriented Programming and Digital System Design has really taught me how to effectively work in multidisciplinary teams and provided me with the necessary skills to secure a Co-op work term as part of my Co-op program. As such, I was able to gain relevant industry experience before I even graduated.
