The growing field of Biomedical Engineering fuses engineering design and problem-solving to improve human health. As a student and graduate of Biomedical Engineering – you will be on the cutting edge of medical innovation and advancements in human health. Co-op Stream

All Engineering majors at the University of Guelph are offered with co-op, allowing students to gain valuable paid work experience as part of their degree. Our program is direct entry, meaning you apply directly into your major of choice from the start.

Students are admitted directly to the co-op program. A regular stream is available, and students not interested in co-op may request a transfer once they begin their program.

My co-op work terms gave me experiences I didn't even think were possible. Throughout my time in co-op at Guelph, I was a research assistant for a gait laboratory at the University of Guelph, where I conducted investigations on strategies used during obstacle avoidance. I was lead engineer for the design and development department at Niagara Prosthetics and Orthotics, where I constructed innovative rehabilitation products for clients. And I had the privilege of being a research intern at Spaulding National Running Centre - part of Harvard Medical School! I assisted the athletes' medical team in helping that athlete achieve peak performance, and I conducted ground-breaking research on running biomechanics.

As a student in the Biomedical Engineering Co-op program at UofG, I have loved the supportive and friendly atmosphere our School of Engineering offers. I have really enjoyed my upper-year biomedical engineering courses, such as Bio-instrumentation Design and Engineering Biomechanics, where I have had the opportunity to apply foundational engineering skills to solve problems related to human health.
