Message from the Dean

On July 1, 2025, the University of Guelph launched the College of Computational, Mathematical, and Physical Sciences (CCMPS). Dr. Stacey Scott was appointed interim dean of CCMPS, and named dean effective April 1, 2026.

Scott joined the University of Guelph in 2016 after nearly a decade as a professor in Systems Design Engineering at the University of Waterloo. She completed her B.Sc. in Computing Science and Mathematics at Dalhousie prior to completing her PhD from the University of Calgary and postdoctoral studies at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT).

As a professor in the School of Computer Science, Scott has held several leadership positions, including associate director of graduate studies, assistant director of the School, and acting director of the Master of Cybersecurity and Threat Intelligence program. She is also the director of the Collaborative Systems Lab, where her research focuses on human-computer interaction, collaborative and social computing, and user-centred design of emerging technologies.

Scott played a pivotal role in shaping CCMPS, serving as Chair of the Ad Hoc Committee that led the college’s development and approval process. Her leadership continues to guide the college’s formation and strategic direction.

Scott is honoured and excited to serve as dean of the new CCMPS college.

"I cannot think of a time in modern history when sciences-based education has been more urgently needed to address the challenges facing our society. The award-winning teaching and research taking place within CCMPS and across the Departments of Chemistry, Physics, Mathematics and Statistics, and the School of Computer Science are equipping students with the critical thinking, analytical and technical skills, and creativity needed to ask important questions, seek evidence-based answers, and develop innovative solutions to improve people’s lives."
