Go CODE Girl provides an exciting opportunity for girls and gender diverse students across Ontario to learn about the exciting world of coding and software development, and discover opportunities in computing and engineering fields.
This event is hosted by Guelph Women in Computer Science Club, Creative Encounters and Women in Engineering!
Good news! Go CODE Girl will run twice, once in the morning and afternoon. This is in response to the high demand for this event.
Go CODE Girl takes place each February and is part of the broader Go-Series of events designed to inspire and engage young girls in STEM. Be sure to check out other the other events throughout the year: Go ENG Girl (October) and Go PHYS Girl (November)
Why Attend This Event?
Today, software forms the backbone of our interconnected and digital world. This includes everything from smart machines to our communication systems to the cars we drive. Coding is the ability to read and write in a language that a computer can understand so that you can instruct a computer how to perform complex tasks. Learning to code can lead to increased digital confidence, a different way of thinking about problems, and the ability to understand and use technology to help develop creative solutions in almost any discipline. Go CODE Girl will educate and inspire girls with the digital skills, confidence, and resources needed to pursue an education in technology, computing, and engineering. No previous programming experience is necessary. This program is a FREE and exciting opportunity for Grade 7 - 10 girls, including all youth who identify as girls or gender diverse, to learn about the wonderful world of coding.
The Grade 7 & 8 attendees will be hosted by the Guelph Women in Computer Science and Creative Encounters. They are working together to create fun, hands-on activities that inspire students to explore coding confidently and without hesitation.
The Grade 9 & 10 session will dive into the exciting world of artificial intelligence with the Centre for Advancing Responsible and Ethical Artificial Intelligence (CARE-AI ). In this session, important ethical questions will be explored, and attendees will discover how easy it is to build your own simple AI system!
